It works, I'm here – yes really, I seem to have ticked all the correct boxes and clicked the correct buttons and now I'm here and I have to say I'm impressed.

I thoroughly enjoyed the NZ Open and learned a great deal about blokart track racing. (One can only improve from coming last I suppose.lol!) However it was my first time on the track and indeed my first experience of blokart racing, as I have previously been a beach sailer, competing largely against myself, so I didn't expect very much.

I haven't been out since returning from Papamoa, but the new CRB sections and the addition of telltales on my 4 meter sail will I hope make some difference to my overall performance.

Can anyone clarify the advantages of a shortened pulley whip when used with a CRB and how much it can be shortened by while remaining legal under BAI regulations?

You can shorten the pulley whip down to 350mm although most that I know of go to about 400. The advantage is that you can now get more tension on the leech(back) of the sail. You will notice that in some winds the leech actually "flaps" if not under tension and this is slow.
The biggest difference will come from the use of the CRBs. Go try them.

This will be the last night of the twilight race series if the wind holds up. It's predicted to be rising to 15 knts this afternoon which is idea. We have 26 races so far and need another 4 to finish off. I hope everyone has looked at bearings after last weeks blast at the beach. Next week we might have a self handicapping points night for something different or maybe some OPTN challenges. Meet tonight 5 - 5.30, briefing about 5.50 and racing to start at 6. See you there. Russell

Looks like we're smokin' on Mailspaces too.  After missing the migration from Smartgroups I've managed to connect without having to resort to a 4m + CRB!

Many thanks on behalf of the sailors in the Twlight series Russell for organising and recording the latest series.  We wait with baited breath to see whether you can beat Haydn in his new "faster" kart next time (when you get to sail again) - or are cream buns and pies on the menu so we have to do battle  with you in the heavyweights forever more.  Perhaps the prize for winning the Scratch class is you have to run the next round! A new form of self handicapping?  Did news get out before the last race Haydn?

Some fabulous battles on the track last night and a few run-away tyres to dodge too!

Cheers

A good night for sailing, enough wind to lift onto two wheels although the super heavies might have wanted a bit more. John and Haydn (with new blokart and speed to burn) dominated the top places but also a win for Wayne O in the first race and a win for Nicholas in the last race after leading from start to finish with Haydn closing the gap to 2 seconds at the end.
With a steady wind for the 6 races and  covering 4 laps (10 - 12 minutes) the results should be fair for all and the handicap section will be in doubt until the computer has finished spitting out the results. Everyone gets to drop 6 races so this will alter things, especially for those who missed a whole night.
Results to be posted over the weekend.
Looks like a nice day on Sunday with a steady breeze of about 12 - 15 knts for the ladies have a go day. See you at the park around 1 pm, bring your food and drink for the barbeque.

Currently 50km winds at Waikanae Beach. Low tide 7ish. Whos for an evening beach blast?

Surely Grant,

Some of us SFB have little choice but to revert to CRB's and 4 meter sails. Hopefully you shared my pain at having to spend the best part of several races at the NZ Open Super Heavyweight Class 'wheelchairing' around the course in order to finish.

Greetings All,

After getting back here from NZ we’ve been extremely busy and it’s taken far too long to get our shots of the event on our website. But here they are.

Please have a look at http://www.hiwinz.com/HiWiNZ-Photos.html ..... and take note of Barry’s launch weaponry…..

Also recently added is Japan Xmas Race footage. Including longest b-Deuce-Limo at: http://www.hiwinz.com/hiwinzimages/2006Q4/Photos_20061203.html and http://www.hiwinz.com/hiwinzimages/2006Q4/Photos_20061203-DE.html with Pa-Tachee-Santa at the Helm.

If you have good bandwidth I advise using the Zip-File-download-option at the foot of each days shots.

The photos are 1024x… but the originals are 2650x…. so if you want a better quality copy of any of the shots just let me know.

Video’s of the New Zealand 2006 blokart Opens are “in working progress”.

Seasons Greetings and Best Wishes for 2007 !!!!

Naoko, Jimi and the Japanese blokarting community.

Best regards,

Jimi

Hi Rick

CRB = Carbon Race Base. It used to apply to the bottom 2 sections (Base) of the mast where carbon fibre sections replaced the fibreglass ones. Now carbon fibre sections are available for the whole mast. But the name has tuck.

CRB's (Carbon Race Base) are two lower mast sections made from carbon fibre. They are more rigid than the normal mast sections so keep the mast straighter, which in turn provides a more efficient sail profile. They are an official blokart accessory available through your local blokart distributor.

We're kooking like we'll have a ladies day on Sunday with a rising wind forecast and a lot of interest from the ladies. Sue & Emma, possibly Sally, Merrin (if Trevor and I can talk her out of her tennis elbow) and we have the demo kart available too. Merrin will use Trevor's kart (Trevor is a dab hand on the barbie). Orca Dave is hopefully bringing his niece. Perhaps Allan can get Angela along too (she sailed well at the NZ Open in the deuce and on her own on Allan's kart, so hopefully having a few more fun sailors along will help).

So we have from 18 years of age up, so come along and ask around. Guys, up your kart for the afternoon while we talk shop!

With Marg & Jenny running the event and the men relegated to the pits and the BBQ (these two are top sailors) there are tips going that the blokes won't hear. I lost my OPTN challenge to Jenny (on a one-to-one)
– but we'll see who is on top in scratch for the Twilight series – eh Jenny. Results out this weekend!

Some come on guys, get the invitations and the barbie tools out and let's have a great day! For the men it's blok(e)-art day! Show your tats (or whatever).

Cheers
