Just goes to show that it isn’t the pre-start that determines the winner then!  And that’s what counts!  Please refer to the Twilight series scratch results pre-xmas.

You spotted the deliberate mistake – well done! I wondered if anyone would correlate this with the photo.

When blokarts are on opposite tacks, a port tack blokart shall keep clear of a starboard tack blokart. A blokart is on a port tack when the wind is coming from the port (le ft) side and/or the sail is on the starboard (right) side of the blokart. Similarly, a blokart is on a starboard tack when the wind is coming from the starboard (right) side and/or the sail is on the port (left) side of the blokart.

And so you should – as it was your edits of the sailing rules that set out to make it easier to understand!

The near side kart has the wind on the left.

Interesting what the sail looks like – it does that when moving backwards!  The bottom of the sail has the wind to the right, middle to the left, top to the right.  And the wind was WSW!

Nice stir! We did know better!

It goes with out saying that you were following Orca in the prestart.....

Easier to let us know when you aren't following Orca ;)

So from the photos and what you just said about "avoiding Orca who was on port" does this mean that both you and Orca failed to give way to a starboard tack kart?

Both of you should know better than that.

The blurred background photos are really cool.... can see some of those being used for website banners etc!

Nice work Tony, even more impressed when you said that you only took a few on the day.... 700 wasn't it?

Gaye, this is the “pop down” mast. What you see is a T-Bone. This was just after the start gun. I was following Orca to the start line for one of my better starts of the day. “Pop down” evidently avoided Orca who was on port tack but then appeared in front of me. I had the choice of tacking (not likely in time doing 30 kph) or bearing away (but there was a lamp post there). The front wheel had no traction at that speed under full power as I decided to bear away and try and fit between the lamp post and the approaching cart. I just braced myself and sat back. Is that a grin of relief that I lived, or as some would have it the face of the Kamikaze? But I reckon going over a curb was rougher. But I’m not so sure “pop-down” shares this opinion. My Pod was bent over my feet and up to the mast. The gentle collapsing must have soared me the full impact. A credit to the blokart design, a five star NCAP rating for sure! I guess that is why we have the starboard rule (right hand rule) to avoid this sort of mishap.
