Thank you for your vote of confidence and enthusiasum. Ivanpah is and mostly likely will remain a kind of "Mecca" for land based wind powered craft in the US. Despite some people's efforts to change that (myself included) Smart to just go with it. The week before we are there, the "big boys" own the playa and do their thing. It is the spot where "Iron Duck" set the land speed record for a wind powered craft. There is lots of history there.
For an event, Ivanpah has all the the requirements. Easy to get to, a major airport nearby, transportation, low cost rooms, camping, restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and a big flat surface.
As a sport, blokart is still new enough to be going through some "growing pains." The most important of which is how we decide one overall winner across multiple wieght classes and two divisions. Our plan is to run a sort of "experiment" at the end to handicap a final deciding race or races using the full range of sail sizes now available to adjust for pilot wieght. To that end, and until we find out if this idea works or not, Ivanpah 2008 will have to be a dress rehersal for a future world event.
But what a ride its going to be finding out!
Come and join us!
