I've had no problems at all with my E-Trex, except that little mouth at the back that eats batteries. I understand later models are supplied with a rechargeable lithium Ion battery which overcomes that problem. Unfortunately never been fast enough to challenge the accuracy of its recorded data, but all appears to work as expected.

I also seem to have bought a DUD Foretrex 201, as it can randomly switch off, and Murphy says it is usually when in the countdown before a race or when I am doing 102kph! ;-)
It sometimes wouldnt search or lock onto the satellites, and I am also now struggling to download data from it, as the PC wont recognise it. It only sometimes works well.
When I sent it back, no-one could replicate the problem, so it was returned and I was told there is no fault!
I must try sending it back again.

HI Grant

I had problems with Garmin years ago.  Without knowing the specifics of your purchase date and location, under consumer guarantees act, the shop that sold is responsible for the guarantee.  If Garmin are not helpful, that is the shops problem.  You also have recourse beyond a year, as some greater time is reasonable for a GPS.

I have been using a Garmin Forerunner 201since 2005 for blokarting, and I am on my second one.  Both have developed faults where the buttons stop working.  Garmin have been totally unresponsive about the recurring problem, and the last time it was replaced under warranty. To get it fixed now will cost more than a new one, as it has to go overseas and I have to pay freight, plus USD69.

Does any one have a dead Forerunner or Foretrex that I can scrounge the keypad off?  I have the unit apart and it is easy to swap over (in case someone else is interested)

Also, buyers beware – has anyone else had my problem. Pity, they are otherwise an excellent product.

Regards,

Grant
