Dave,

The main gate at Ohakea have your name for the Masters so just rock up in your rental car and they will let you on.

Looking forward to catching up and have a safe trip to all travelling.

Gary

Hi.

As Gary said, it was a challenging day. There were a couple of times where a wind gust picked my rear wheels up off the ground and nearly put me in a spin, but I hung on and never capsized - Thank God.

The photo attached is the evidence of the speed I reached yesterday on the Ohakea runway with a 3m sail.

This was verified by Gaye Forster, Ian Timperley, and many others who couldnt believe it until they saw it.

I decided to call it quits before I damaged anything except my tires. A brand new set of tires on for that day - completely wore out the outside one in 57mins!

All good fun.

Hope to see some good racing next weekend.

Cheers

Dave

Well Done Dave.

that's a good speed. My max, unverified, is low 80s and that is very much "on the edge" with the slightest movement or bump greatly magnified. Can't imagine doing it without having everything just right. In fact was going high 70s when hit some surface water, aquaplaned, 720 degree turn, and over with some slight damage. Haydn can verify as he stopped and asked if I did it on purpose! Yeah right.

My mate who now live in the UK sent this when I asked him if he balanced his wheels.

"I have only just bothered to do my bearings. Not bad since they are still the originals from when I got the kart in NZ (5-6 years ago). At that speed and above (my current top speed 54.2 mph or 87.2 km/hr in real speed - recognised by BLSA) things sure do wobble!!

Can someone organise a world professional circuit for blokarters.... I will put my hand up for it!!"

87.2kph with unbalanced wheels - bet thats a rough ride!

Dave

HI Guys,

I would be more than happy to add the Katalyst to the table.   I think the same rules should apply.  They are basic rules, this is just a bit of fun.  I based the rules on the UK site.

For official records you need to setup measured kilometres, speed traps etc. That’s all possible but not really in the spirit of what we do with our Blokarts.  Personally I love going fast, adding some bragging rights to that is fun!

Yeah probably not so much of a big deal with a Katalyst, because any of the “driving” (car) speeds (70, 80km+) are going to look real suspect.

But still, people can make whatever speed claims now.  What Dave is doing is putting up a table and having the results verified, a bit like a soccer game or Guinness Book of records, putting rules around it, makes the results official…  So why don’t you put up a unverified table and then people can post results to whichever table suits?

Cheers

Phil

No outboard, and I promise (but can't prove) it was my Katalyst.

Barry suggested the possibility of tampering with the evidence by downloading, modifying, then uploading. This is not possible, as uploading tracks to an Etrex will cause one of the fields to be blank – detectable. Of course, unless you examine myEtrex, you will have to take my word for it anyway :)

How does this compare to getting two witnesses? Witnesses can probably be bribed easier than data can be faked. At some point, you just have to take people's word for it.

I was also going to suggest a trip length comp, but I don't want to encourage people to sail beyond their ability.

My longest trip so far (with breaks to stretch my legs, but without unpacking toKatalyst) was from Eastern Beach to Motuihe Island, to Islington Bay (ramp), and back toEastern Beach – 21km. My return journey of 9.5km took exactly an hour.

If noone else wants to keep a Katalyst speed table, I will. And I'll take a radical approach. I'll trust people. Since there's nothing else I can do.

Main issue was people saying I did x speed but I can't remember if I
turned the GPS off when I drove home... If you have your data points in
the middle of the gulf that rules that out. You didn't have an outboard
attached?

What about an entry for the Katalyst?

I've clocked it at over 10 knots, and have GPS readings to prove it...
BUT how do I get others to back me up? I was all the way out at Motuihe
Island (taking out of the bay, heading to Islington Bay, Rangitoto)

It's still in the GPS (Etrex) – is someone else analyzing that enough?
