Yeah Paul – I can identify with the squeeze – I was the meat between Rod (closest to the top mark) and ORCA (windward) on Sunday. Both their wheels were inside of and just forward of my rear wheels but behind my front wheel. I wanted to give Rod room (as this was one time he DID have overlap), but ORCA was going for it. A very LOUD: OUI – ROOM got me my rights. We all know ORCA is a gentleman (even if he has to be asked) and I’m not averse to putting the squeeze on ORCA like he did me (but I save it for the last lap at the finish line, eh ORCA).
I think Lucy is still coming to terms with the width of her kart (hence picking up the cone), but hey LUCY, go for it if you can get away with it.
As for the protest, the Race Officer for the Class (Russell/ORCA for the Middles, Wayne O for the heavies and me for Restricted) must get notice of a protest before the start of the next race. But I don’t recall ever having one in the ABC – and we’ll probably reject it unless it is really BLATANT. Most people don’t do this deliberately. But when they do the memories are long – have a look at the Hazard Board and there are plenty that remember the first Nationals in 2005 when sailors try and Ben(d) the rules. There were no winners in that protest!
I just save them up, have a quiet word with the person if I’m really narked – or get even (legitimately) – I find this really motivates me to sail better!
Anyway, I know you we’re serious about the protest, and Lucy is on notice – but Lucy Bargy doesn’t have quite the same ring to it – and wonder about Margy and how she got the “Bargy” (she’s got a bit soft lately but watch that change with the taste of a series win).
Cheers
Grant

It wasn’t so much a case of running into the back of Lucy as three of us went round the corner together, the forward to squeezing the third. Meat in a sandwich, and when its squeezed it pops out, or in this case UP. Wheel stand or is it lazy boy rocker stuck in the recline. Lucy squeezed me and I protest.

The photo of the blue banner on the side of the van looks really impressive. Although, as a group we are hard to miss, the banner does tell people who we are and gives a focal point to our meetings. Sunday was the first time I had seen it up and I thought it looked great on the day and looks just as good in the photo.
I think some of the hazards that went up on the board later in the day were reminders to some members to watch out for themselves as much as the rest of us to watch out for them. I mean, who in their right mind is going to follow Nicholas into the container. Missed a great shot when one of the restricted class ran up the back of Lucy’s cart and ended up going over backwards just as they were coming back into the main carpark. I haven’t seen that before. And where was the photographer when Lucy picked up the cone and carried it off. Was that so she had more turning room to get out of the carpark? Crafty move Lucy. Oh well a body can’t be everywhere at once and those shots show what a great day we had. If the wind can blow steady like the early part of the racing for the rest of the season we will have some great racing over the winter.
