Al, Ray and Neal decided to give the beach a miss and turned up to BPP and had a ball of a time.  The wind was fairly steady at around 17knts with the odd gust around 25knts - perfect SW winds for blasting up and down to the far car park, jibing in through the bottom entrance at 55 - 60kph, sliding to slow down and exit out the top entrance followed by a more sedate ride back towards the main car park.  Some playing on the rugby fields and rally track also took place with some exciting slides and two wheel sailing on display.

After a quick consultation, the trio blasted through some fast reverse round the mountain races with Neal capturing the top speed of the day of around 65kph sliding sideways, crossed up and grinning like a mad man.  All I can say is once the construction work is finished and the round the mountain track is sealed we will have one of the fastest, most exciting places to hoon about in NZ!  One three lap race continued through eventually finishing after 6 laps probably 'cause I ran out of fingers trying to count the laps as it was just too good to stop the fun!

We were joined by a couple of new comers to Karting who were also enjoying the shirts and shorts weather sailing.  All in all a great day that finished around 3.30 -4pm.

Subject: [blokart] Auckland Sunday

Great day at the beach. 15 turned up for the fine weather, 15 - 18 knts winds, smooth hard sand with plenty of room for a few quick races and just flat out hooning down the beach.
The wind didn't get to the predicted 20 - 25 knts but it was perfect 4 metre weather. Most met about 1 pm at the car park, Dave sorted out Wayne's 3 metre problem and then we trundled down to the steam to meet up with TV Tony. Trevor and Chris came down about 15 minutes later plus we met Bernie for the first time, another new club member. We set up some marks about 500 metres apart, the north one close to the stream. If you missed the gybe then it was into the water, eh Tony. Did some laps, then some self handicapping races to find out who the sandbaggers were and then into the trip to the surf club and back. The hire karts were out so we did a few "promotional" laps for them and the public before heading north again at over 60 km/hr. I just wish everyone wouldn't keep falling over when doing the promotional laps. As a result of doing this twice we got asked by the life guards not to use the swim flags as rounding marks (who was this??) but I also had 2 enquiries about blokarting. One from a person who has had one for 2 years and has only used it twice and the other to buy a new one as they wanted to join the fun. Both now have our newsletter and website address for future contact.
A few found the pothole with the deep water, quite a few spins and tips on the slippery sand but lots of fun. The beach was wide and flat with lots of room for play. For a couple of club members it was the first time at the beach and a bit of an eye opener. No kerbs and different type of sailing, and of course sand in the teeth (and bearings) and a dirty kart.
Hopefully we can do another beach run before Xmas, maybe with a barbeque and partners and kids as well. Keep fingers crossed for the right weather.
Thursday will be the last twilight race series night before Xmas if we get wind. We have just about got to 30 races so will use the 14th as a chance to have our SGM (very short) plus a fun sail and maybe barbeque if the weather permits.
Next Sunday is partners day so bring along your wives and girlfriends (probably best not to bring both at same time) for them to have a go. Marg and Jenny have it all organised. Guys, bring along your meat and drinks and have fun watching! There will be other entertainment.

Still getting the sand out
