Along the same lines as the Gin, they say that the more XXXX beer that you drink the more the mozzies leave you alone.... Or is that the less you feel them.
Gotta be an upside to XXXX I suppose. Might be the only reason Queenslanders like the stuff.

Message to all visitors to Yippoon, in March.
Hi all,
Have been talking to some locals from near Yippoon and they have given me some warnings on how to be prepared for those little nasties we will all encounter over in the lucky country.
Apparently the mozzies are very nasty and leave very nasty bites that can get infected easily, and some carry the Ross river virus.
The local trick is to
1. Take Vitamin B1 (thiamine) daily for 4 weeks before you go (start 2 weeks into Feb)
2. Use aerogaurd tropical strength insect repellent cream while there.
3. Try and purchase some Smoov cream, it is an antihistamine and antiseptic for your first aide kit if you do get bitten.
4. Take some light weight long pants for night.
This advice is backed up by local pharmacists so take it seriously or you may find your holiday blown by the little buggers.
Apparently the B1 puts a smell on your skin that they don’t like but we can’t perceive.
See you all soon.
Cheers,
Debs Davidson.
Thanks Debs, good point. A mate of mine did the African Safari drinking gin all the time and apparently the midgies didn’t bother them, or perhaps they were numbed to the biting.
